My Arousal

My Arousal

Published June 19, 2025

I love feeling sexually aroused.

My vulva feels warm and tingly.

My breath and heartbeat quicken.

My senses are alert.
The sun shines brighter.
Every aroma smells robust,
My skin welcomes every touch.
Foods taste delicious.

I feel alive.

Arousal isn’t a necessarily a signal for sex or a need for an orgasm. For me, arousal can be an end in itself. I can just enjoy it without having to do anything about it.

One of my favorite things to do is being out in public while being aroused. It makes shopping at Trader Joe’s so much better. I move my body to the music as I push the cart down the aisle. The fruits and vegetables look so luscious. I have dirty thoughts as I size up the zucchinis on display. Other shoppers make eye contact and smile. On an unconscious level, they pick up on my happy sex energy. I remember once when checking out, the man packing my bags blurted out “I’m a married man!” There was no verbal flirting, only a glance and a smile. Yet my arousal was noticed. That made me happy too.

How do I get aroused?

Certainly vulva massage and vibrators will bring in blood flow and generate my arousal. Reading a kinky story on Literotica or watching a spicy movie on XConfessions can spark my arousal too. I use these tools when I purposefully want to become aroused for sex.

I can also become aroused whenever I pause long enough to connect to sensations in my body that come in from my environment. Standing by the shore of the lake with my eyes closed, listening to the waves crash, feeling the breeze move across my skin, and inhaling the fresh scent of the air. Getting out of my head and into my sensual body sparks my sexual arousal. Simply, I let my body lead.

Providing opportunities for small sensual experiences in my daily routine helps increase connection with my body. I find good smells very pleasurable, so I have favorite essential oil liquid hand soap by every sink. My bed sheets are smooth cotton percale or soft German flannel. I enjoy feeling the texture against my bare skin.  Rich, dark roast coffee awakens my taste buds and my body as I savor my first cup every morning. Regular, pleasurable connection with my body supports my arousal.

When I’m aroused, I’m happy, confident, and open. I’m creative, motivated, and energized. Arousal is just as pleasurable as orgasm.

Feeling Full and At Ease

Feeling Full and At Ease

I always think of a word to sum up a Bodysex Workshop. My word for May’s workshop is ease: “to be free from something that pains, disquiets, or burdens.” The day before the workshop, there were some bumps. Carlin’s flight was late which made getting the equipment to...

My Experience with Penetration

My Experience with Penetration

I remember penetrating myself with my fingers for the first time when I was 3 or 4 years old while taking a bath. “Mommy, I found a hole in my vulva and it’s not where my poop comes out.” “That’s your vagina,” my mother replied matter-of-factly. “It’s the place where...

Permission for Pleasure

Permission for Pleasure

I’ve always managed to find pleasure through mindfulness in everyday moments: The orange and deep pink in the sky and water during a sunset The calming sound of the water lapping at the shore. The lemony smell of the soap as I wash my hands The soft, warm feel of...

Anger Has a Purpose

Anger Has a Purpose

I find my power when I’m angry I saw him enter the building, walking past signs that read: Do not enter.  Private event for women only. “Get out! No!” I shouted as I propelled toward him, pushing him with the energy from my body. Now I imagine myself in that moment as...

Bodysex Is A Healing Force

Bodysex Is A Healing Force

As I packed my bags for our upcoming workshop, there was a certain heaviness that I couldn’t shake. Usually, I feel excited to meet the women and get a change in scenery.  However, our new normal is crisis and chaos - unknown actors and undefinable risk.  How would it...

Arousal: What It Is and It Is Not

Arousal: What It Is and It Is Not

Ugh, arousal even trying to think about my arousal, makes me groan and roll my eyes.  Who talks about such things. What the hell is arousal anyways? Arousal, desire, sex drive, libido all seem like a complex mumbo gumbo word problem.  Breathe, well in true nerd...

Waves of Arousal

Waves of Arousal

The timing of this blog couldn’t be any more perfect. Recently, I decided to stop taking  birth control. I’ve had my share of experiences with birth control for over a decade now. I had an  I.U.D for three years and started to have anxiety about the tiny plastic...

Arousal Is Interesting

Arousal Is Interesting

In 1992, just before the ninth grade I got braces. And headgear, which I was told to endure for 22 hours a day, but only wore at night because I just couldn’t wear the contraption to school. My orthodontist hung polaroids of his patients in their various stages of...
